WASHINGTON, D.C. - The soon-to-be First Family is looking for the perfect First Pet to join them in the White House, and it may be waiting for them just outside the Beltway.
The Humane Society of Prince George’s County says they’ve got a rescue dog that would make the perfect pet for President-elect Barack Obama, his wife Michelle, and their daughters Malia and Sasha. Sydney, a 7-month-old Labradoodle is waiting for a home after her original owners couldn’t care for her any longer.
The family has said they’d like a shelter or rescue dog, and they would prefer a Labradoodle or a Portuguese Water Dog. However, Malia has allergies, so the family must choose carefully.

Sydney gets along great with kids, dogs, cats, and everyone she meets. She’s already housetrained, and she even knows how to use a dog door. She’s also crate trained, leash trained, and knows basic commands.

Sydney, a 7-month-old Labradoodle, is available for adoption at the Humane Society of Prince George’s County.

Sydney has gotten all her shots, and she is spayed and ready to find the perfect home. According to her foster mom– a Prince George’s SPCA/Humane Society volunteer– Sydney has gotten lots of training and attention while staying in a foster home. She’s great at playing tug, chase, and fetch. She loves everything that squeaks, and is even great riding in the car—where she apparently sits like a princess and gazes out the window. Perhaps a presidential dog in the making?
