October was Domestic Violence Prevention month, and several of the male celebrity contributors to the book Saving Our Daughters: From A Man’s Point of View, including T.I. and Gary Sturgis, participated in a national media campaign that provided hope to abuse survivors, while challenging men to seek help.
Inspired by the leadership and success of the men associated with the book, a few female celebrities will now pick up the torch and continue to champion the messages conveyed in Saving Our Daughters throughout November, which marks the official launch of the book.
Female celebrity participants lending a hand to encourage and inspire young women and single mothers this month will include Denise Vasi, from the popular soap opera “All My Children,” entrepreneur, Lisa Wu Hartwell, of the Bravo TV show “Real Housewives of Atlanta,” Keshia Knight Pulliam of, Tyler Perry’s House of Payne and New anticipated Movie, Madea Goes To Jail, Treynce, a Top-5 finalist from the second season of “American Idol” and poet Georgia Me, who was featured in Russell Simmons’ Def Poetry Jam. While these women are all different, they share a passion for empowering others through open and honest dialogue about their positive and negative life experiences.
“In life, as women we are sometimes forced into situations that can on the outside seem to victimize us as well as characterize us as defeated. In that moment you feel helpless, powerless, and minute compared to the GIANT that you are fighting against. I want to challenge young ladies to FEEL and HEAL and take back your power. As a victim of abuse myself, I can tell you that it is a process, but what helped me get past it was something that I was told: No matter what has happened in your life, no matter the road blocks, the GIANTS that may come against you,…..Order your life the way you see it. Just like looking at a menu when you sit down at a restaurant, you tell the waitress “I want a turkey burger, no onions, extra cheese, no mayo” and if she brings you something else, you send it back. THAT is how you should view your entire life. Set a goal. Make a plan and DECIDE that no matter what adversity you may face that it WILL not, CANNOT affect my destiny.”
-Treynce from the American Idol 2nd Season
“Affirm your daughter daily. Build up her confidence at home so the world will not be able to break her down. If she never hears from anyone else that she is beautiful, smart or capable, she should know she is all of those things because she hears it from you everyday. Speak into her life until you see her blossom into the strong, intelligent, empowered woman she was destined to become. Even when she begins to walk with her head held high, continue to affirm your daughter.”
-Lisa Wu Hartwell “Real Housewives of Atlanta”
“It’s important for our communities to encourage young women to maintain Self-respect and moral. To have strong opinions and to feel free to use their voice. To dream big and to work hard, from that, all will follow. The future possibilities are endless.”
- Denise Vasi “All My Children”
“I consistently donate clothing to shelters; prepare meals for project open hands in Atlanta for girls in need; and participate in projects like this. You are beautiful because you are you. Regardless of what other people look like or what clothes they are wearing, beauty is what is on the inside. Try not to focus on looks & social status; because that will only get you so far in life”.
-Keshia Knight Pulliam of “Tyler Perry House of Payne”
Georgia Me, who is a well known popular poet, will be the voice and the back bone of the book, which she will deliver powerful poems of dialogue for mothers, fathers and daughters in a format of community platforms based on selective letters from the book.
