THE ROCK CHRISTIAN CHURCH
LOVE RELIEF SURMOUNTS THE NEIGHBORHOOD GROCERY STORE.
WASINGTON, DC- “What does love have to do with it?” “Everything!” is the common reply from the sisters and brothers of The Rock Christian Church. This Thanksgiving season, volunteers will meet at Safeway, located at 2845 Alabama Avenue, SE, and pay for groceries. Volunteers, placed throughout the store, will rely on the power of love to connect to individuals who are experiencing hardships and pay for a portion or the entire grocery bill. Individual amounts offered will range based off donations (expected too total approx. $1,800.00). This new age LOVE RELIEF will take place on Monday, November 24th from 10am-1:00pm and Tuesday, November 25, 2008 from 4pm-6:30pm.
The idea of LOVE RELIEF is to show love by performing actions that are regarded as kind and unexpected to the community. In this occasion of economic hard times, the LOVE RELIEF concept is built around helping those who are helping themselves and recognizing that anyone at any moment could use a helping hand.
Southeast DC is described as one of the poorest areas of Washington, DC. LOVE RELIEF will give many people free groceries of their choice for Thanksgiving and the “audacity of hope.” In June of this year, The Rock Christian Church moved from Northwest DC to Southeast DC to establish several aspects of the LOVE RELIEF PROJECT.
The particular event of paying for groceries was inspired by the Spirit of Faith Center in Maryland.
