RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Not only has voter registration soared in Virginia, more than 300,000 people have already cast absentee ballots.
At a news briefing Thursday in Richmond, officials with the State Board of Elections said the number of absentee ballots cast in Tuesday’s presidential election could total 10 percent of the vote. About 220,000 absentee ballots were cast in the 2004 presidential election.
The board’s secretary, Nancy Rodrigues, and its chairwoman, Jean Cunningham, outlined the many steps they have taken to ensure that Virginia is prepared for a historic election.
While Rodrigues said they are concerned about lines at the polls, their primary concern is the integrity of the vote.
