Some D.C. Absentee Voters May Have Wrong Ballot

October 24th, 2008 · No Comments

WASHINGTON (AP) — The D.C. Board of Elections and Ethics says some voters who requested an absentee ballot may have received the wrong one.

Board spokesman Dan Murphy told WTOP that one Ward 2 voter complained about receiving a ballot for Ward 6, but the problem could extend beyond one incident.

He says the problem occurred because some of D.C.’s single member districts — which are small areas represented by Advisory Neighborhood Commissions — cross ward lines.

About 15,000 absentee ballots have been mailed so far.

D.C. Council member Jack Evans says he’s asked the elections board to review the issue immediately.

Murphy says the absentee ballots were mailed by the same company that provided voting equipment for D.C.’s September primary, when thousands of phantom votes were added, skewing initial election results.
