With the emergence of reality shows on TV, there is one that stands out from the rest, VH1’s intriguing and entertaining “I Want to Work For Diddy”. This is the reality show above all others. It has plenty of twists, turns and surprises while contestants seek the most difficult yet fun job in the entertainment industry today…being Diddy’s personal assistant.
Local star Boris “Can Do” Kuperman was cast on VH1’s “I want to work for Diddy”, and is now ready to take what he learned on the show to the next level. He describes himself as a motivated, no non-sense kind of guy with a “can do “ attitude, who will do whatever it takes to accomplish the task at hand.
Born in Russia, Boris Kuperman moved to Washington, DC in 1998. With a background in law and entertainment he felt he was the perfect fit to be Mr. Comb’s personal assistant. He persuaded Diddy to cast him on the show with some impressive credentials. His experience includes managing a local hip-hip group in DC that got the chance to work with Russell Simmons. He managed several models in the Washington, DC area that have been offered video opportunities by G-unit and Chris Brown. He’s also done work on several national and regional magazine publications, interviewing many artists such as 50 Cent, TI, Ice Cube, Ludacris, Ice T, Lil Wayne and Mariah Carey. With this type of experience, it’s obvious he would be a strong contestant on the show to be Diddy’s personal assistant.
Boris “CAN DO” sat down with myvoicedc.com for an exclusive interview, after he was eliminated from Diddy’s show:
How do reality TV stars really feel when eliminated?
Terrible!!! I felt like I let myself down along with all my family, friends, and fans. We all feel like it’s NEVER our time to go and when that time comes we all crumble. At first my initial feeling was to rely on my defense mechanisms and become combative, because I knew I should have won that show easily. But at the end of the day it’s all about TV, I feel like everything is planned the way it goes down. So in reality it was a great learning experience for me, I came away from it with much more than I went into it with.
Who really did the work on the show?
It truly was a collaborative effort, but I feel that I was the spark plug that excited the ideas that we came up with as a group. I believe in a true sense I carried more than my fair share of the work on the show, despite being portrayed by the producers in the way that I was portrayed in reality I was the motivational force in the group, and without me the others would still be floundering.
What is Boris really like?
I can best describe my personality as being result oriented. What I mean is I set goals and I give every ounce of my energy in attaining those goals. In the process I may be somewhat over-bearing and exacting upon those around me, but if it results in the goal being achieved then I feel that I have done the best for myself and all those associated with me. I believe that the “CAN DO” attitude that I exhibit is a common characteristic found in most people who are able to achieve success.
What’s the main thing you learned from the show?
The most important thing that I learned from being on the show is that although it looks like I have failed I was able to take a great deal of experience away the process and as a result I believe I succeeded in having a truly great learning experience. In an old song there is the lyrics that “there is no success like failure, but failure is no success at all” meaning that everyone make mistakes in life, and the difference between success and failure is learning from your mistakes.
What are your plans now that you have been eliminated?
I hope to use my experience from the show as a springboard to show others what they can do if they set their mind to it with a “CAN DO” attitude. I would like to continue with other reality shows given the opportunity and maybe someday be able to have an entertainment career. Currently I am studying to become an entertainment and criminal defense attorney, and have been working at a law office for almost four years. I am also making appearances and hosting at various events.
Did you ever receive any words of wisdom from Diddy that stuck with you?
I recall on the occasion on one of our more personal conversations Diddy expressed that whatever you do in the industry you had to do it with 120% of your heart, mind, and soul. Which means you have to throw your entire being into being a success in this business. Although you might have to sacrifice a bit of sleep and recreation to obtain your goals, and once you obtain your goals hopefully you will find that the sacrifices were well worth it.
Boris “Can Do” also told Myvoicedc.com that he’s learned the hard way that to be successful, excuses are not an option. Nothing replaces hard work, determination and the drive to keep going…not matter what.
