ATLANTA (MyFOX Atlanta) — Sarah Palin has held many titles during her career — mayor, governor and now Republican vice-presidential nominee.

But there’s one title she doesn’t have in part, because of the woman you’re about to meet.

Her name is Maryline Blackburn. She lives in Smyrna when she’s not on the road with her singing career. She said she remembers Sarah Palin — then Sarah Heath — like it was yesterday.

“Sarah was in my top five who left an impression on me,” said Blackburn.

Maryline Blackburn is talking about Alaska Govenor Sarah Palin — Senator John McCain’s running mate. In 1984, Palin was in the running for a different title — Miss Alaska. Blackburn beat her for the title in a pageant she remembers as being very competitive.

“That look in her eye — it was that look that says ‘I’m determined to do this’, and it made me even more determined to do it too,” said Blackburn.

Blackburn moved to Georgia two decades ago to launch a singing career. She said she watched Palin give her speech at the Republican National Convention and that same determined look is still there.

“When I looked at her eyes it reminded me of 24 years ago. Saw her eyes, it reminded me of that same look. Determination? Yeah, that determination,” said Blackburn.

Although Palin didn’t take the crown Blackburn said Palin was so much fun and so sweet she voted for her for Miss Congeniality. But she won’t be voting for her in November.

“I’m excited for her, and wish her the best, but I know where my ties lie. It’s all about Obama baby.”

And just in case you’re wondering what Palin’s talent was in that competition — she played the flute.
