Silverdocs: AFI/Discovery Channel documentary festival honors director Spike Lee.  The festival’s Charles Guggenheim Symposium recognizes Spike Lee for his excellence in storytelling of current and historical events.  While Lee may receive the honor, it’s the public that gets rewarded with free screenings of several of Lee’s award-winning documentaries.

On Thursday, June 19th at 10am Silverdocs screens WHEN THE LEVEES BROKE: A REQUIEM IN FOUR ACTS Lee’s film on the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and its affects on the people of New Orleans.  The timing of the screening seems even more compelling as floods continue to devastate the midwest.  The festival runs through Monday, June 23rd and features a diverse collection of documentaries and shorts from around the world.
