The sound is as unique as the rhythm and when you hear him, you can’t help but feel his vibe. I’m speaking about Denton Malcolm, or “Rude Kid-da-ReggaeRap Inventor”as he calls himself.  When I first spoke with him on the phone, I could imagine him up on a stage commanding the audiences attention.  He has that suave island accent combined with a passion to succeed and once you’re around him…expect nothing but FIRE!

Born in Kingston, Jamaica in a little community called Backbush, Mountain View…Rude Kid has been blazing here in the states.  He has a list of accomplishments that read like a book: 2 times Young Entrepreneur of the Year, 4 time Reggae Artist/Dancer of the Year, 2001 Bob Marley Award, 2006 Rap Artist of the Month, 2007 Reggae IDOL Award(2nd Runner-Up) and the list goes on.  So who is this young man from Jamaica who considers himself the inventor of a new genre called ReggaeRap?  He recently gave me some insight into his world.

Micheline- How did you get your stage name?

Rude Kid- My name originally was “MC BULLA “G” and some of my friends suggested that I change it. I had girls calling me sensual and they would say kid you too bad or kid you’re rude. “Every girl you see want fi rude” So I changed my name to Rude Kid you know like Rude Boy, but I dropped the boy and added the Kid. I also am the creator and inventor of what I call “ReggaeRap tm” so I added ReggaeRap Inventor to my name hence, Rude Kid-da-ReggaeRap Inventor.

Micheline- When did you realize you had a gift for music?

Rude Kid- I figure my intuition would say that I was musically gifted from birth, however date wise I would give it to 1984, the first time I performed on a DJ Sound System on called Express in Kingston, Jamaica.

Micheline- Your sound is unique and original.  What is the message you want folks to hear?

Rude Kid- I want my music to send a positive message. “Respect & Honor” even when I “ReggaeRap tm” about what we now term as “warriosa” music. I want to have fun while still holding women to the highest.

Micheline- What do you think people would be surprised to know about you?

Rude Kid- Probably that I enjoy listening all types and genres of artist like Kenny G and Michael Bolton. Of course I have my favorite rappers like Biggie Smalls, Jay-Z, 50 CENT, Lil Wayne and, Kanye West.

Micheline- Being from Jamaica, do you have any favorite Reggae artist?

Rude Kid- I’d have to say the entire dancehall fraternity. From Bounty Killer to
Beenie Man, Nadine Sutherland, new artist Mavado, Demarco and Sean Paul (that’s my dizzle).  I also enjoy a lot of R&B artist like Alicia Keys, Raheem Devaughn, J-Holiday, Mary-J, Beyonce and Maroon 5.  I could go on for days.

Micheline- Who would you like to collaborate with on your next C.D.?

Rude Kid- Bounty Killer, Big G, Jay-Z, Nadine Sutherland, Sean Paul and Foxy Brown. I have several songs I wrote for myself, with them in mind and also 50 Cent because he endorsed me.

Micheline- The music business is a rough fast paced scene.  What have you learned that you can share with those on their grind like you?

Rude Kid- “A Healthy Artist/Businessman is a wealthy Artist/Businessman” so while on the grind manage your time properly, get some rest, eat right and most of all write hit songs! In addition, make sure you’re being compensated for your time in one way or another; credit or money. Remember Artistic Integrity & Marketing

Micheline- After reading your resume and all that you do, it seems you stay busy.  Outside of music, what do you enjoy?

Rude Kid- I enjoy playing soccer, fine foods, speeches, teaching entrepreneurship seminars, philanthropy, developing and publicizing companies, fine fashions and fine women. (Expressed with a smile)
From magazines, to radio, to concerts, non-profits, and more I learned so much about the Artist born Denton Malcolm. One thing for certain he’s a force to be reckoned with in the business world and the music world.  He has his eyes set on the TOP and is constantly at the TOP of his game.  Whether it’s selling his music overseas, or preparing for his next big business venture…Rude-Kid-da-ReggaeRap Inventor…has a name just as impressive as his goals.  I spoke with a man on a mission who isn’t stopping until he has all the success his life has to offer.

Check out his song “Stay Fly Ain’t Bentley” below.
