LAS VEGAS (AP) – Charles Barkley acknowledges he owes a $400,000 gambling debt to a Las Vegas casino.
The 45-year-old former NBA star also promised to repay it after a prosecutor said he would face criminal charges if he didn’t.
Asked about the debt, Barkley says it was his mistake for letting it debt lapse, adding, “I’m not broke, and I’m going to take care of it.”
Earlier today, Clark County, Nevada, District Attorney David Roger said prosecutors would file a criminal complaint if Barkley didn’t pay the debt cited by the Wynn Las Vegas resort.
The casino alleged in a civil complaint filed yesterday that Barkley failed to repay four $100,000 casino markers, or loans, received last October.
Barkley played 16 NBA seasons, including a stint with the Phoenix Suns. He’s now a basketball analyst for TNT.

Should be more like, “I’m not broke, I just can’t afford to pay that huge debt.”
