African-American Authors at Alexandria Black History Museum

Local Writers Offer Readings, Discussion at June 14 Event

The Alexandria Black History Museum will be hosting a special program featuring local writers of color on Saturday, June 14. Authors representing a wide variety of genres read and discuss their works and influences. The program is free and runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Among the participants are:

  • Novelist Vannessagrace, author of The Dark Before the Light at Dawn;
  • Playwright Charnika Louise Hayes, author of The Other Side of Womanhood;
  • Local history writers Nathania Branch Miles, Jane Taylor Thomas, Carolyn C. Rowe and Beverly Babin Woods, who have authored several photo histories, including Oxon Hill, Fort Washington, and Prince George’s County, Maryland from the Images of America series;
  • Novelist, poet and Metropolitan police officer Quintin Peterson, author of A Dark Place and The Kingsley Affair; and
  • Genealogist and columnist Char McCargo Bah, contributing author of Everyday Grace, Everyday Miracle.

Following the formal program, the authors will sign copies of their works. Light refreshments will also be served.
