PHILADELPHIA  –  Barack Obama’s brash former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, plans to preach next month in his native Philadelphia.

Wright is scheduled to preach May 28 and 29 at a revival called “Remember the Journey; Rejoice in the Blessings” at St. Thomas African Episcopal Church. St. Thomas, in the city’s Overbrook section, is the oldest African American congregation in the Episcopal Church USA, founded in 1792.

Wright is scheduled to preach June 1 at Canaan Baptist Church, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.

Speaking Tuesday in Winston-Salem, N.C., Obama said assertions by Wright that the U.S. government had provoked the Sept. 11 attacks and engineered the AIDS virus were “outrageous.” Obama says the comments are destructive of the racial unity he would seek as president.
