The DC music scene has recently taken a turn for the better. Artists like Raheem Devaughn and J. Holiday have been putting DC on the map…and up next for the spotlight is DeAngelo Redman!
This R&B vocalist, songwriter and actor, got his big break when he appeared on hip hop mogul Sean “P Diddy” Combs hit MTV realty series Making the Band 4.
In a recent interview with Myvoicedc.com, DeAngelo talked about his audition for Making the Band at Platinum night club in DC. He describes it at a mind-wrecking audition that was a very long process that ended with him finally meeting and auditioning for Diddy in NY. He said the biggest thing he learned from being on the show was that to be successful takes a lot of hard work, a lot of time, and the music business really is a “business”.
Ever since the finale of Making the Band 4, he signed with Bad Boy in November 2007, has done shows in numerous cities, college promotional tours, judged talents shows, and is working on recording his first album.
He currently has 3 singles that will contribute to his album. “Dreams”, which tells the story of his hopes of becoming a recording artist, “Live Life”, a tribute to those who are living and struggling with HIV/AIDS and “Foreplay”, which is a sultry mix about passionate young romance.
Born and raised in Washington, DC, DeAngelo found his love for music at the age of five. He attended the famed Duke Ellington School of the Performing Arts, before graduating from Northwestern High School in Hyattsville, Maryland. DeAngelo went on to further his education at Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland. He currently lives in Washington, DC with his family, and has one son, DeAngelo, Jr., who was born during the taping of the MTV reality show.
DeAngelo Redman wants to thank the DMV for all the support that has been shown to him. And wants to let us know, that this has been a long time coming, and he is ready to represent DC to the fullest!
